Sport for Life
Frequently Asked Questions

Thank you for your interest in our Sport for Life program.
During the meeting on January 26th several questions were asked that are important for you to know. We have compiled the common questions and answers here for you. Please feel free to reach out to the office at 780-467-2295 or contact grant.fiddes@eips.ca with any additional questions.

1. How does the timetable work? Do students have options, and do they still have core subjects? Does Sport for Life run only during the school day?
The Sport for Life program is run on the same timetable as the rest of the school. Students still have the same number of hours / blocks of core subjects as the rest of the school. Students still also access options which they will choose later in the Spring. The Sport for Life program is scheduled during Physical Education and Health time and does not impact their core subjects and is entirely run during the school day. Activities are not outside of school time and will not interfere with extracurricular activities.

2. Is transportation available (from Fort Saskatchewan)?
Transportation is available for students from other areas of the district, but transportation fees may apply.

3. How many students are in each class?
We anticipate capping student enrollment at 32 students per grade group.

4. How do fees work?
The fees for the program are $1800.00 for the year. A down payment of $250.00 is due May 1st, 2021 upon final confirmation and enrollment into the program. Beginning in the fall, regular payments will be required to a maximum of $1800.00.
Fees are cost recovery, which means that if there is more than $10 per student not spent in the provision of the program through field trips, instruction, and activities, we will issue refunds.
Please note costs of clothing are not included in these fees and are assessed separately. All clothing purchases are optional.

5. How much time is dedicated to sport for Life?
Students receive approximately 2 blocks of Sport for Life instruction every other day, which is approximately 1/3 of their school day on those days.

6. Are there acceptance criteria, or is it first come, first served?
There are no acceptance criteria as such. However, we hope that students in the program will demonstrate a positive attitude towards physical activity, academics and always represent the best of Clover Bar Knights when they are out in the community and within the school community as well.
We will accept registrations on a first come, first served basis until the programs are full. A waiting list may also be established if required.

7. If my child is currently registered in the program, do they need to sign up again?
Yes, we will be contacting all families of students currently registered in the program on Monday, February 1st. These families will receive the application form in through email and be asked to re-register by the end of February.

8. If a child is unable to participate in a certain activity, are there alternate choices provided?
Our teachers find ways for all students to be meaningfully involved regardless of ability. For example, on the ice we might have students playing a game of shiny hockey while others learn to skate, and a third group plays broom ball wearing shoes. There is a way for everyone to be involved!

9. Do students in the Sport for Life program stay together for all their classes?
They will be together for their core subjects and for Sport for Life. They may be with different groups of students during their Option and CTF time.
