Geo Challenge - February 16th

The School Challenge consists of two stages. A Classroom Challenge determines which students will advance to the School Championship. The School Championship involves up to ten students who have been the winners of their Classroom Challenges.

Questions at every level will address the subject of geography in its broadest sense; that is, they will require knowledge of place names and locations of the cultural and physical features of the earth. This may include the distribution and patterns of languages, religions, economic activities, population and political systems. Students will be asked about physical phenomena such as tectonic activity, landforms, climate, bodies of water, soils, flora and fauna. Changes in places and areas over time, including activities that modify the environment, may be addressed. The tools of geographic communication such as maps, graphs, instruments, images, and statistics may be the basis for other questions.

The top school winner will be invited to compete in the Provincial Challenge with winners advancing to a National Competition. Good Luck Clover Bar!

Peanut Aware/Scent Free School

Clover Bar Junior High has both students and staff that have severe allergies to peanut based products and scented products and can have life-threatening reactions.

Please send snacks and foods that are peanut free.

Scented products are not to be brought to the school and all staff and students should consciously limit their personal use of scented body products and hair care products on school days.

Due to the severe potential health threat to members of our school community, the intentional use or spraying of scented products in the building will be dealt with quickly and seriously.

Please read the attached EIPS Scented Products and Scent Sensitivity document.

Please help our school be a scent free zone!

Community Consultation

Re-Imagining our Sherwood Park Schools: Student, Program, and Boundary Planning

As approved by Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) Board of Trustees and identified in our Three Year Education Plan, one of our priorities is a review of school boundaries and programs within Sherwood Park. Given the recent demographic and program population changes in Sherwood Park, it is necessary to review and re-imagine our Sherwood Park schools to determine the best possible use of our facilities and the locations of programs for the maximum benefit of all students.

This project, Re-Imagining our Sherwood Park Schools: Student, Program, and Boundary Planning, will begin in February. We value your input and feedback and look forward to your involvement.

Throughout February and March, parents (through their School Councils), students, and staff at the schools directly affected by possible changes are invited to participate in the first round of conversations. Directly affected schools include:

  • Bev Facey Community High
  • Brentwood Elementary
  • École Campbelltown Elementary
  • Clover Bar Junior High
  • F.R. Haythorne Junior High
  • Glen Allan Elementary
  • Lakeland Ridge
  • Mills Haven Elementary
  • Pine Street Elementary
  • Salisbury Composite High
  • Sherwood Heights Junior High
  • Wes Hosford Elementary
  • Westboro Elementary
  • Woodbridge Farms Elementary
  • Wye Elementary

This first round of conversations will inform upcoming components of the process that will take place in the spring and into the 2012/2013 school year. These later conversations will include opportunities for parents and students from other Sherwood Park and surrounding area schools to participate.

We encourage you to take this opportunity to participate in these conversations to share your input on student, program, and boundary planning for our Sherwood Park schools. Your involvement throughout this process will help ensure the recommendations put forward will be for the maximum benefit of all students.

Through your involvement, we hope to generate the best possible recommendations

If you have questions regarding Re-Imagining our Sherwood Park Schools, please contact Principal Cathy Allen at 780-467-2295.
